OP, it sounds from your post like these aren't family members of yours, so why did you accept the invitation? You shouldn't have, if you have misgivings about the marriage.

Not family. One of my close golfing buddies. I will wish them the best of luck and truly hope it happens.
If I cared about my friend/family member getting married, then, yes, I'd care about who they were getting married to, especially if I felt that they were getting swindled. But, after sharing my concerns with them (I wouldn't pass any judgment on the future spouse, etc., unless I had anything concrete, but would advise my friend/relative to tie things down as they see fit), I'd let it go.
I've been to weddings where people didn't think the couple would last (if that's what your getting at). Sometimes they are right and sometimes they aren't. It's best not to worry or speculate on that sort of thing.
One of coworker's did this when he was 30 something and she was nearly the same age. He paid off all her debt. He even bragged about that she was buying stuff on sale, kind of like she was saving money. Whatever floats their boats. Who cares?
He is 72 .... he can't take the money with him. He is literally walking toward's deaths door. If this brings him happiness ... then so be it. I think once you hit around that age ... Live and enjoy life because satistically speaking the odds grow more and more against you remaining healthy enought to really enjoy many things.
as the line in song goes, "as long as god has no objection there can be no wrong". if people ask my advice on things like this, i am willing to give it, but for the most part i keep my mouth shut unless it is something that i know will be disastrous.
He's 72, not 102 . You make it sound like he's got one foot on a banana peel the other foot in the grave. 72 ain't all that old nowadays.
