Yep. I have two friends who are very good photographers. Early in their respective careers, both had a nice side business doing boudoir photos. Neither of them were ever called by a husband or boyfriend. It was always the woman who got things rolling. They'd show up with someone, either a close friend or their s/o, doff their duds, and be Playmate For A Day.
In the past 5-10 years, I have seen several people on my social media account that have had these types of photos done and posted pictures. Ironically, they tended to be lower class individuals if you get my drift.
Are you confusing boudoir photography with those Glamour Shots from decades ago? If your friends have boudoir pics on social media, then it's the friends that are low class, not the photography.

For me, it's mostly theatre people I knew from college who are involved in the burlesque scene. So, lower-class, if by lower class, you mean college-educated professionals.
OP, maybe take some time to think about how you're going to broach the subject. I've had many friends have boudoir photos taken, but usually as a gift to their partner.
