Which internet dating sites are best?
Okay...I have heard a LOT of stories about this dating site and that web site...some of the stories have been hilarious. What I'm wondering is what has your experience been? Anyone had any particularly good or bad experiences? Do people really get rejected from E-Harmony, like the commercials say? Am considering trying one of these things, but am a tad gun shy!

EHarmony automatically rejects anyone under 21, anyone who is gay or bi, and anyone who is married or separated (must be completely divorced). Beyond that, it also rejects people based on a bunch of ridiculous criteria. Plus you have to pay.
The best, IMO, is OKCupid. It has a matching system as well and I've had amazing luck on it and there are plenty of people on there just looking for friends as well which is helpful. And it's free.

What the hell. I know I posted this before, but I made a profile once on one of those places, can't recall which one. I just wanted to prowl and see what was out there. Quite a few people contacted me. I think that a lot of them just contact everyone in their area. One of them was the ER of our Elks Lodge who also used to be my boss. He was married and pretending to be single and even put his picture on the site. He was a prick so of course I printed out the whole mess and took it down to the lodge and we all had a good laugh. Everyone except his wife that is.

I liked that site. Is it wrong that I enjoy answering all of those questions they give you rather than trying to meet new people?

I met my SO on Yahoo singles over four years ago but back then I also tried matchmaker.com and it was ok. It's been a few years so I don't know if it all holds true but here's what I learned from internet dating:
1. Meet the person during the day in a public place & park near the door.
2. After several emails and a few phone calls if you feel you might hit it off with the person, then meet asap. The longer you wait the more chances of someones feeling being hurt if you're not attrcated to them in person.
3. Don't lie or use an old picture in your profile. The truth is eventually going to come out.
4. EHarmony - IMO was terrible. They make you fill out a ton of questions and then send you people you have nothing in common with. That was my experience anyway.
5. Don't use free sites. Anyone can go on a free site but a person that's serious and really looking for a relationship will PAY to go on a site, where a person that's just having fun probably won't pay.
6. People that after several emails don't want to talk on the phone or meet probably are either married, in a relationship or just looking for pen pals.
There are lots of threads on here about internet dating, just do a search. I'll also DM you a web page with a bunch of dating web sites you can review. Good luck!

Try plentyoffish.com, you can set a criteria of who messages you i.e. must not be married, must not be looking for intimate encounter, or even must not have messaged anyone looking for an intimate encounter. And it's 100% free, pay sites don't have the incentive to delete fake profiles, those fake profiles may just entice more people to pay to join.
If you are lucky enough to have one of these sites in your city, check out Metromojo - Local Social Networking, Online Communities and Citizen Journalism Software & Sites - it's like a myspace that is divided up by cities, and if nothing else you could meet some cool new friends in your area.

I used westernmatch.com and countrymatch.com
I don't know if those are your cup of tea but I had good luck with them. Met my guy on westernmatch.com and am happy as can be!
There are singles sites for just about everything. You could do a general one like match.com or any of those kinds or one that cater to a select audience such as what I did. They have them for just about every religion, hobby, ethnicity, etc you could think of. Just think about what's important to you ( in my case it was someone country/western) and do a search for sites. Good luck!!!

That sounds sooo sweet and loving! Let's hope the "unit" doesn't read it.
