If the lease is ini your name, you are free to go where you want afterwards. You can always tell your roomie youre leaving, without his accompaniment and they cam take over if they wish to afterwards.

I would definitely let him know that you won't be renewing, and encourage him to take over the lease when you leave. If you signed the lease then you are responsible for the condition of the apt when you leave, even if you leave first and he leaves a few days later. If he trashes the place then you will be charged for it.
If he is happy there then let him sign a new lease with the landlord and stay put, and you move out. And, even if he has made you miserable it doesn't pay to be spiteful... it always comes back to bite you! Be the bigger man.

ok. I'll be nice. I am just glad to move out and far away from the weirdo. Distance is the best remedy.
