Ladies, would you be offended if a guy showed up on a first date wearing shorts with flip flops or sandals? (dating, older)

I'm not talking the cheap rubber or Old Navy flip flops, but a nice pair of leather flip flops or sandals paired with khaki shorts and either a button down or polo shirt. Let's assume the feet are in decent shape.
As for the location of the date, let's say a casual restaurant, outdoor bar, coffee shop, or the like.
I never thought this would be an acceptable outfit but had a conversation with a female friend who considered that a dressy outfit and acceptable, which surprised me.
What do you think? Could that be considered a dressy outfit or too casual for a first date?
I don't wear flip flops, but I wear shorts, a pair of Vans and a t-shirt every day, unless I'm at work.
That's what I've worn to all my dates ever. I don't like dressing up and if a date has a problem with it, she's definitely someone I don't wanna get to know.
Where I live this would be normal attire for a 20s or 30s dating guy (in the summer for a casual date). Bonus if his shirt is a concert T that is very faded and worn. This was sarcasm.
The older I get the more I get turned on by a guy who takes care in his clothes, clean, pressed, not old, somewhat stylish, like he made an effort.

I live in Providence now. But what you won't see me wearing is:
1) shorts
2) flip flops (unless chilling in SE asia or central/south America)
3) baseball hat (though I should wear hats more (of some type) to protect this noggin)
4) a goatee (beard yes, goatee no)
