Surely glad that my late wife of 40 years and I lied a bit to each other in those early days.

My marriage going on 6 years is certainly not as long as your 40, but I have not discovered anything so far that I felt lied to about, or that was withheld which suddenly would be a deal breaker to having married my wife.


I am curious why you think honesty early in dating would lead to no marriages.

I put my best foot forward and hide things that aren't flattering early on. That is deception to a point. I don't think out and out lying is worthwhile and can be downright cruel since it is misleading someone's feelings.


I'm thinking big things like criminal record, marital status and so on. Not, "Oh, I like football too!!" when you really couldn't care less about the whole team but don't mind watching a game now and then.
