An alternative view here: Maybe she's trying to put you off because she knows it's possible that the "maybe" pregnancy is because she had sex with someone else in the same time frame. You said you broke up because she cheated on you previously. Perhaps she was seeing someone else at the end of your relationship.

The stick may not literally say "maybe" but there must be some cautions on the package that the inaccuracy is much greater the earlier on in the pregnancy it is. I wouldn't believe a "not pregnant" one week after a missed/late period" - would you?

Yes, considering that home pregnancy tests are accurate to the 90s percentile even a few days prior to a missed period. By a week after a missed period, they are just about as accurate as a blood test at a doctor's office.

Okay, take a few deep breaths. Pregnant or not, you can keep putting one foot in front of the other. Women can be late for no reason.

Go ahead and make a personal survival game plan. Let’s say you become a father. It doesn’t sound like she’ll marry you. So what do you need?

You need a good job. Yep, that’s about it. Start laying the groundwork for a decent career that provides benefits.

Do you need training or education? Get yourself to technical school and see what you can study so you will find work in a year. See, you have plenty of time.

If she’s pregnant and you want the child, contact an attorney and get advice. You’ll need a paternity test.

Let her know you care and are willing to be involved. Handle it gently. Whatever happens, you can handle it if you plan ahead.
