I have another thought, based on another coco I had with him. Since apparently I get to learn all about his dating life. He met some other girl at the same time he met me and the girl he is dating. Bust she gave him a story about how she was really busy until early June. And he wanted to know if he should wait it out even though she didn’t seem enthusiastic. She was apparently “his ideal girl.” So maybe he is looking around for his magical unicorn.

So you are in an esteemed profession, upwardly mobile, you have an active social life — if he’s hanging out with you he can show his old college friend and new dates that he is in with the in crowd.

Totally possible, but to be fair, the girl he is dating and I are somewhat similar: she also works in tech, is upwardly mobile, not sure about her social activities but....it seems like we probably also like to do the same stuff.
The college friend is also in the same vein. Basically we are all kind of the same people, lol. College friend works in finance.
