have a hotel room to myself that my work paid for. Indoor water park resort, mostly families I think.

I feel like having this hotel room is such a waste - I’m in a new city, so anyone I meet won’t know me or have any mutuals. The hotel allows for anonymity too.

I shouldn’t try and hook up with anyone from work, right? Should I just go to the hotel bar and meet people?

Why sit in a hotel bar and hope to meet other bored travellers?
Go out! Explore the city, the cafes and bars. Go to the park. Sit outside a restaurant or bistro, observe people, start a conversation. In a resort kind of place it shouldn't be that hard at all...

So....you don't have any dating apps? The best strategy you can think of, is to sit in the hotel bar?
Didn't you say it was mostly families at your hotel, anyway?

You don't meet people by expecting or planning to meet people. That's.....painful and inorganic.

You meet people by interacting organically in the real world. Just go out and have fun in the city you're in and relax. You're trying too hard.

I’m here for one night and the population of the “city” is 3,000 people. Nothing to explore.

No, you should not.

OMG are y'all going to Wilderness At the Smokies???

If you're hinting (with the anonymity comment) that someone will tell you that you should call in an escort, I can tell you that a town of 3,000 likely won't have the "premium options" you're hoping to choose.

If you're there for only one night, why bother making anything huge out of it? Just spend it like you would spend an empty night at home. Bring a 6-pack, and put it in the fridge. Swim in the hotel's water park until it closes. Then find a movie to watch, drink your beer, and mellow out.

If the hotel is located in or near downtown, find a dance class and go. It'll give you a structured, yet low-pressure way to meet new women.

P.S.: This doesn't look like a relationship thread.

How is it a waste? Don’t you need a place to sleep, shower, etc?

In that case, just enjoy the water park and get a good night's sleep.

Isn’t by definition getting a free hotel room capitalizing?
