Let's say you have ten couples where one of the participants lost a significant amount of weight and started living a healthier lifestyle. Will a large percentage of those relationships ultimately end in divorce/breakup? Has anyone gone through it on here?
I’ve gone through that. My wife’s weight has been a roller coaster since we got married. She’s gained, lost, and gained again. I’m sure at some point she’ll try to lose again. And when she does, just like through all the other fluctuations in her weight, we will be fine.

Any kind of change requires both people to adapt and that stresses a relationship. I'm not saying that change is wrong, by any means, especially something that actually improves your health. But "rocking the boat" has to be dealt with and the more you do that the more the chance for a divorce.
Ive never been with a woman that needed bariatric surgery for obesity as the articles talks about in the OP.
People are meant to gain weight (that's how the body is biologically geared) but being 150lbs over your ideal weight just isn't healthy.
Im sure in these cases when one is super obese in a relationship, and losses significant weight, breakups are bound to happen with their newfound body.
It really comes down to love, not lbs when these weight-loss breakups happen.

I had one friend who got a divorce after she lost a lot of weight, but her husband was always healthy and slim and doing fitness activities was one of the few things they actually liked doing together. They were just never compatible.
I watch My 600 lb life sometimes and I always marvel at how loving, caring and devoted the wives husbands are. These morbidly obese ladies get treated so well and have the best men ever.

There are also a lot of stories about how when the wives lose a lot of weight, insecurities get exposed with the husbands because they realize the wife will be more attractive to others. One was on Family by the Ton when the woman had gastric bypass and lost a lot of weight, the boyfriend split and everyone called it. Something about when you realize that just being there ain’t gonna cut it anymore just brings the insecurity out in some men.
