Why Are We All Having So Little Sex?

I don't know how much attention this will get. I saw it floating around on the Internet weeks after its release and after I'd made a claim that sounded a little crazy to me, that up to 20% of young people are being completely shut of sex and relationships. To me, it's major news, the type that belongs on TV, that the dating scene truly is as bad as many people have been saying.

I really think that technology is a big part of this change. I know that during the long years of my marriage, the many nights I did not want to have sex with him, having the TV there to watch was a fine distraction/excuse. He was able to turn to porn to get his needs met. I was able to talk to people online to get my needs for basic (non-sexual) validation and interaction met. When he was playing video games for hour after hour, I felt both that he was unavailable to engage in any loving way with me, and that it wasn't fair that I always had to be "the adult" doing all the work and he got to "play." By the time I came to bed, I was often pretty upset about that. Efforts to bridge the gap with communication really didn't help.

We had interpersonal problems and huge incompatibilities, but with the addition of all the tech...that made it EASY to keep quietly building a great big wall between us. And it's definitely, if we're studying such a change over the course of American history, a big change in our culture and in our homes, in the indicated timeframe.

A lot of millennials are overweight and apathetic. They think many things are too much effort, and may prefer technology to physical things. If dating or relationships take too much effort or compromise they'll just hang out on social media or play video games. The only ones who think it's a crisis are incels.

A lot of people are, but overall, the millennial generation I see takes eating healthy and physical fitness very seriously, and heck, they are anything but apathetic. They are driven and politically engaged.

That's fine, and perhaps regional, cut the CDC confirms more young adults (and all adults) are overweight than ever before. Politically engaged or not, apparently.

The screens offer a much easier dopamine hit than sex and are waaaaaay less messy

That things noticeably worsened between 2014 and 2016 seemingly points away from body size as a major factor. There's no indication that the population suddenly became less attractive. Dating site dysfunctionality is what I'm thinking.

For this particular situation there is no one answer. Like the article pointed out, there are many psychological and environmental factors that contribute to this "phenomenon." This thread seems like its trying to perpetuate propaganda about OLD. if you don't like it, don't do it.
