I’m very confused about this and no one I can confide in to ask without being judged

Is his proposal welcome and genuine? If so, why do you care where the ring came from and is legal and real?

Proposal is real with a little pressure from families though. I care because it could be a stolen or counterfeit item and that’s not what I want to be reminded of when I wear it.

If it came from a police auction, chances are that it is neither stolen nor counterfeit. See a jeweler about the authenticity if the ring and see the police dept. about it's origins. Then decide.

Worry the most about family pressure. If you love him and want to marry him, what's the problem?

Hell no, it wouldn't bother me at all. The markup on jewelry is extremely high. If I was getting a better ring that was used I would be fine with it. Cut, carat, clarity .. .all these things go into the value of the Ring. You can take it to a jeweler to find out if it's real or fake. If it comes from a police auction it is legally obtained.

If it really bothers you, how about just plain gold bands and no diamond?

Will your house have to be new, too? Direct from the builder? Does the fact that your fiance is being practical offend you? Do you think only if he goes into debt for a ring that it will show he loves you?

The important part is do you love him enough to spend the rest of your life with him?

Do your soul searching now before you marry him. If he's not good enough because of the ring or because of other reasons, now is the time to admit it to yourself and tell him goodbye.

That's kind of exciting, don't you think! Just check to see if the original owner might be looking for it. It not, go for it!

This sounds so genuine, not at all like you were a shill for Police Auctions Canada.
