...... But what kind of marriage is that? The husband can't even make plans without having his wife cancel them.
LOL. It's the normal kind of marriage where the husband wants to keep the peace and keep both the wife and himself happy, as I'm sure you've heard the expression "If mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy". It definitely sounds like the kind of marriage where the wife's happiness comes first and foremost before the spur of the moment happiness of friends and neighbours. Which is how it should be anyway, spouses should always come first.

And as others have suggested there might have been a mix up in communications between them that day. Spur of the moment dinner plans don't always work out well if not all contingencies are taken into consideration, it's usually best to plan them a day or more in advance so everybody is on the same page.

I see a lot of guys on here sadly don't even run their own house. Sad and shameful.

If this doesn't occur on a regular basis, I'd assume that there is a legitimate reason he changed his mind. Maybe they were overdue for a date night, or maybe there was something that she needed to discuss.

No it isn't. Most couples run THEIR house together these days and have for a long time.

If that is what happened and he told you specifically that that is what happened, you did not say so, and as my crystal ball is in the shop, I was unable to read your mind.
Well, the very thinly veiled narrative of bashing the wife/women doesn't work otherwise.

I still think the friend didn't want to use the owed favor at the cheap place. His wife likely wasn't even involved in the matter.
