Stop going to Meetups to find a date, that’s not what they’re for.

I sort of (but not fully) agree with this, but what are some good avenues to meet potential partners in your opinion then ?

I have heard of success stories of couple who met via meetups, but it is rare though

I know of several couples who've met through meetup or similar, but they do still have to follow the social contract of the group. People like the OP might show up for one event and unsuccessfully treat it like a meat market, then come on here and complain that the people (read: women) are mean.

If you go to a meetup, you should go because you're interested in the activity at hand, not just because you might hook up. You should become a regular so that people get to know you and vice versa, not just show up once and leave in a huff because you didn't get any numbers.

You do not "find" a mate.

I was not looking for a mate when I met my future husband back in 2010.

It just naturally happened.

^^^^^This!
Don't treat it like a meat market, for Pete's sake! Choose an activity that genuinely interests you, start attending the meetups, and get to know the people in the process. And get rid of the instant gratification mentality because you're not doing yourself any favors with that attitude.

I find that most men get this sort of advice from their dads, and in their early teen years. What did your dad tell you about dating, if at all? Has he explained to you how he met your mother?
