Candace Bushnell, author of Sex and the City, has a new book -- Is There Still Sex in the City? Both books were based on her life.

The latest is about her life after divorce. She talks about dating much younger men and how cubs, not cougars, are often the aggressors. Interesting article.

"In a shocking twist, young men in their 20's want to get laid."

I'm absolutely stunned. It's like she is exposing the secret underbelly of young male American culture. Who would ever have thought?

In the few months I was on OKC at age 36, the most typical age of man who messaged me was 27. To the point I was like, "Oh, another one." I wonder if there is something about age filters, less than ten years older or something like that...?...that caused this. Or maybe 27 year olds just really want to hook up with somewhat older women. I don't know.

Granted, 36 isn't really that old. I was just surprised I was hearing from so many guys of that age. I'd have expected them to be going for women their own age and younger, and men trying to chase after me, to be my age or older. But no.

Older women are hot. Less games. Less hangups. Better control of their emotions. Experienced. Mature.
They just mean business.

There are some people who age badly, but as a generality, peak appeal is young to late 30s I'd say.

By that, I mean at that age you attract the most people.

Older people are attracted to those in their 30s and most 20 somethings are attracted to 30 somethings.

Some people would say 20s is peak attractiveness, but I think a lot of older people (mid 40+) look at 20 somethings as kids.

I guess. I see 20-somethings as kids, personally. They might look cute sometimes, but I can't take them very seriously. But then, I like older...sometimes significantly older...people, especially men. I'm a little more flexible where women are concerned, but honestly I struggle to find a woman I can date, at all, regardless of age or how appealing they are at first.

I just turned 40 this year. I'm now past whatever peak that was in my 30's. My range of "peak" for men that I tend to like, is late 40's through mid 60's. My partner is 60 and that suits me just fine.

The frustration I have with women seems to have little to do with age. I've had crushes and attractions to women anywhere from 18 to 60 in the last few years but invariably there is something about their personality that, while I can be friends, even very affectionate friends, with them...I cannot have them as a partner-level kind of closeness in my life. This one is too flaky, that one too dramatic, this one is bipolar, that one is an alcoholic, not one of them is easy going enough to get along with all of my other people, they are enemies with this or that person that I also like...there is always something. I like women. I enjoy their company. But when I contemplate trying to have one in my innermost circle, I feel sympathy for the men who try to date us. I don't think I've ever met a woman who was as chill as I am. And I'm way too lazy to deal with random outbursts and emotional displays.

Not that men are necessarily more chill. I consider my boyfriend to be a rare breed, because I won't deal with temper tantrums either. Maybe that's why I could never be a "cougar"...perhaps it takes age to mellow a man, I don't know.

LOL getting rather particular in my "old age" I guess. In my home I just want peace and quiet.

I agree with most everything you said. I did message a few women in their 50s when I was still in my 30s, but they didn't respond. One did, said I was too young, and said she would 'refer' me to her younger friend. I saw her friend checked out my profile so I messaged her and ... crickets.

I am 35 and have had lots of younger men message me on dating websites looking for sex and relationships, some as young as 18. I'm definitely not interested in really young men or anyone really under the age of about 25. I have dated a lot of men in their late 20s and men in their late 30s and 40s. I have to say I like that the young ones are more ahem, energetic. Some of the men I've been with can't keep up in that regard.

As an aside, I want to read that article but can't deal with the Daily Mail website and its "sidebar of shame"!

This is very true in my experience.
