It does sound very strange that a guy and his best friend are even talking about this issue when it should be just the two of you deciding. The best friend's opinion is completely irrelevant.
Yes very bizarre.

Have you had the ring appraised? If it is of poor/cheap quality, then it might be damaged. Real diamonds are very hard to break.

Craziness....no point in having it if you can't wear it. Is it a delicate family antique? That's the only reason I could see for it not being a permanent fixture on your finger.

I take off my wedding and engagement rings when I knead bread dough. Sometimes when I put on lotion. Otherwise, it's on. When showering, swimming, sleeping...

I will tell you my husband never stated that he had expectations for its removal. And he certainly didn't come to any decision about it with a friend.

That's what I thought, too; I think everyone thinks that. But I had my mom's diamond engagement ring appraised after she passed away, and the diamonds were full of chips at the corners. Odd.

A friend of mine had her diamond engagement ring appraised after several years of marriage and the appraiser told her the diamond was a very nice CZ. Her husband was quite wealthy so it was odd he bought a fake ring. He insisted that he didn't know it was a CZ. He told her that he believed whoever cleaned the diamond ring had swapped out the real diamond for a CZ.

Not quite, it sounds like she will be micromanaged by committee - the boyfriend and his “best friend”.
Sounds like he is not ready for a serious relationship with the OP. He’s insecure and unreasonable. Instead of discussing concerns with her, he talks with others first? Not a good sign for the future.
