My ex-boyfriend has a restraining order against me, because I went to his home and his workplace after he broke up with me. (I wanted to talk, get closure, maybe beg him to take me back, etc). I am in no way, shape or form a violent person. I have no desire to harm him in any way, or even continue to annoy him. I was actually shocked that he applied for a restraining order. I never would have guessed that he was so adamant about never talking to me again.

Recently, by Googling his name, I've found that there are pictures of him on his company's website. I've gone to the site dozens of times, just to look at his pictures, (I miss him more than I could ever describe), because I don't know a whole lot about computers, and I've thought that my visiting the website was totally anonymous. But yesterday, I went to the site and found that all of his pictures, his bio, and all information about him was removed from the site. I know through a mutual friend that he still works there and has no plans of leaving, so I don't know why he would have his presence removed from his company website.

So my question is this: do the people who run his employer's website have some way of seeing that I've been visiting his bio and looking at his pictures? I've probably looked at his pic's 50 or 60 times in the last month; does that somehow register as strange to the website or something? If so, could it be that he communicated with his employer about the restraining order and asked them to remove his pictures and info from their site, in an attempt to keep me from seeing his pictures?

Importantly, I'm not interested in opinions or a lecture about my behavior. I haven't contacted my ex a single time since the restraining order. I only look at his pictures to remind myself of what we had and to somehow feel close to him again. My interaction with him will never go beyond simply looking at his pictures.

But are the people who own the website somehow seeing my repeated visits? Why else would they remove his info? It's a large company, made up of very highly educated doctors and medical professionals; so I assume that the people in charge of their website are top-notch at what they do.

Thanks for any expertise you can offer here.

No they would have no idea it's you. I think if the police got involved, there might be a way for them to track your IP address and locate you if you are viewing the page from one location, but without that involvement from someone more specialised than your average IT person, I'm not sure they could know. If he has his own page on that website, they can see how many views that page has had and possibly if those views have come from one user in particular, but they won't know who the user is. (This is assuming they use Google analytics).

They have probably removed his info either because he's not working there anymore or because he thinks you're stalking him (and it sounds like you might be) and he's asked his employer to take his info off because he's concerned about that.

Well, I am stalking him, but only by looking at his pictures online; it goes no further than that. And I have always accessed the site from my phone. Not sure if using one's phone makes it easier to determine who they are or not. I know very little about computers.

I did, however, look up my own IP address, and it's apparently associated with Fresno, California, though I live in Portland, Oregon.

I don't see how they would know it is you then (seeing as you are using your phone and your IP shows a location that is not your actual location.)

Multiple looks on a website in and of itself would not be enough to cause an alert that would be looked into. If your boyfriend informs the company about the restraining order and a police investigation comes of that, all bets are off and your ISP can be compelled to release your IP address info leading to your home.

That aside, I believe you do pose danger to him, even though you’ll deny it I’m sure, because you think this would even be remotely appropriate.

I definitely don't pose any danger to him.

Then why did you post it in the Relationships subforum rather than Technology?

Yes, with some programs they can tell when a photo is getting more clicks than others, and they can tell if visits are coming from the same location.

Sounds like you're reading into it, though. You know you need to stop looking.

OP, you should have just saved the images instead of repeatedly going to the website.

I don't want to encourage you as I also believe you're stalking him, but you may still be able to get the images that were taken down. Try the Wayback Machine at https://archive.org/web/

Just enter the web address (URL) where the images had been. There may be a saved copy of the page.

You just encouraged her. She doesn't need to save the photos or look at them again. She needs to move on and having those photographs won't help that it well only feed her obsession.

I think you already know that you need to stop this behavior. I'm hoping that this is a wake-up call for you to once and for all leave the guy alone and move on with your life. It's really unhealthy to keep living on the past and pining away for someone who is so completely and totally done with you that they got a restraining order to keep you away from them.
