So, no woman is going to be flattered that you took her to a classy and expensive restaurant?

Hmm... Sounds kind of fishy to me.

What are you trying to demonstrate to yourself? Of course, there is likely someone, somewhere who gets their rocks off having someone spend too much money on her or him. Is that what you want?

Maybe I’m wrong, but on a date I think she’s gonna be more interested in the engagement, mood, and vibe, than needing to lay out multiple C-notes to cover a dinner bill.
Exactly.

I'm not sure where you are seeing that answer.

Even those of us who said that we would rather that our date did no such thing, did not presume to speak on behalf of all women. I'm sure there's some dame out there who would love it. Probably a bunch of them. Mostly living in California.

But a lot of us just are not into that.

What answer were you expecting?

I might be flattered but also disturbed. As a sort of frugal person who does not work at 7-11 or make crap money.

Flattered?

That's different from expecting "intimacy."

I personally wouldn't think about the cost of the dinner or assume that you were expecting a sexual favor in return. I would just focus on the company and enjoying the meal.

BTW I am not understanding all of the hostility in this thread about the way someone else chooses to spend their money.

That's what the thread is about ... how a person chooses to spend and what that might mean to other people.

The hostility is not unusual here.

Yes.
Also FWIW, if you can think outside the box and NOT go to dinner on a first date, that would win some points (for me)
Maybe you listen to her a little- does she seem like out to dinner would be her thing? If so, what KIND of out to dinner? Maybe she's more a farm-to-table type girl and doesn't even want the $$ restaurant atmosphere.
If you have already done that and know for SURE she wants and expects the $200 place, then it is you, not she, who should feel uncomfortable.

I admit I do find $200 for an entree wasteful. Fine if a person wants to spend that sort of money himself, but I'd be worried that we'd be mismatched with our spending habits as that might be the sort of thing he does on the regular and I don't.
