Student, 18, arrested for sex with girlfriend - Northwest Florida Daily News (broken link)
NICEVILLE — An 18-year-old man faces felony charges for having sex with his girlfriend, a child less than 16 years old.
Imagine if ONE DAY separated you from having a high school relationship....and....being labeled a pedophile.
When I was 17...my girlfriend was 22..... Oh my. I wonder what that makes...me? I'm just one...sick...basta.....wait.. that was her - the Sexual Deviant! She used me! And I was like, a child..or something... Um, well..not used ....exactly. It was more like totally freaking awesome.
now this kid's life is forever changed because of consented sexual acts with a girlfriend...how do you go through your whole life having to explain that to neighbors, schools, potential jobs, future spouse, children etc
The law is to protect young girls from predators. She wasn't old enough to have consented sex.
A fifteen year old girl and a eighteen year old boy is too much of an age difference anyway. Most teens know this law. If they still had sex, they were foolish.
"The age of consent in Florida is 18,[38] but close-in-age exemptions exist. By law, the exception permits a person 23 years of age or younger to engage in legal sexual activity with a minor aged 16 or 17."
Wow. My first was 19 and I was 14. He was not much of an "adult" for age 19 at least...well, he wasn't a very smart or mature person. If anyone was taking advantage of anyone, it was definitely me taking advantage of him. I knew very well how to consent, well before age 16.
18, 19, one is not a "man" yet. Sorry. I have a 19 year old son, he's still very much a kid. He's about as ready to consent to serious life things (such as the possible repercussions of sex) as I was at age 14, 15, 18 or even 20. Which is to say, technically and in theory, yes, but in practice it's still questionable.
