Blast from the past, that's for sure. Maybe I too did this when I was around 18ish and definitely on Spring Break.
And sometimes when my husband and I are driving around (he's driving) I'll see a construction crew up ahead, beep the horn and sometimes cat call when we drive by while I'm ducking down so it looks like my husband was beeping at them - oh he just wants to kill me sometimes!
It use to bother me a lot when I was younger. Nowadays I just really could care less anymore, sometimes its kinda funny ~ but I really HATE it when guys do it when I'm with my kids. Then I have to explain to my kids what they guys are doing/why they're saying that

the train operator yesterday morning said "heyyyy good looking" to me as he leaned out the window while opening the doors at my stop. That was actually sort of funny. but he was old.

I don't care for the catcalls. I'd rather receive a compliment in other ways.
It's embarrassing when men do that.

Not actually a cat call story but a quasi pick up story.
A friend of mine was at a stop light and she was drinking from her childs juice box and a car pulled up with a cute guy in it. He yelled to her and motioned to roll down her window and she did.
She said she was soooo flattered until her window was down and he told her " Ummmm, m'am, I think your juice box may have a leak in the bottom. It is dripping all over your shirt."
Hahaha. She thought she was going to get a cat call but got a reality check!

My opinion.......... Catcalling = creepy
Didn't care for in my younger years and though I'm old as dirt, I still don't appreciate the occasional catcalling when it happens.
Someone in the article mentioned something about responding nicely. Well, that doesn't always work. At least it rarely ever worked for me; seems it was an invitation encouraging more drawn out conversations. Better to just ignore and take the title bi _ _ h %#@*& that often followed.

Speaking of soldiers, for some reason the uniform always instills some respect and you consider them grown-ups (we used to have draft, so all of them were young). One day after I was already somewhat older than them I had my own reality check when I looked closely and saw what exactly is in the uniform... a kid!

I absolutely despise catcalling. I was taught to not even acknowledge it-my mother always said thats how you would get the attention of a dog. It is very common here in the South and very disrespectful and a bad way to get a girls attention.

That might be because women in general are so afraid of facing their own sexuality that they complain about every comment men make...and men are so emasculated that they play along.
