I call her many names, just not to her face. She doesn't like me and I couldn't care less. The only reason she gets any kind of consideration is because she's my wife's mother.

When I see her (once every 5 years or so), I call her whatever suits me at the time. Last time, I didn't call her anything, just said "How ya doing? Good to see you." I gave her a hug and she ignored me and didn't speak to me the entire trip. The time before that, I called her by her first name.

Sometimes I call her Mrs. < shortened last name >

Blessed is the man who lives 2500 miles from his mother-in-law.

When I had a Mother-in-law I called her by her first name.
It just happened naturally and she had no problem with it.

Eventually, I got along better with her than with her son.
I kinda miss her.

Does anyone actually call their mother-in-law "mother-in-law"? How about "mom-in-law"?

I can imagine the conversation: "Hello mommy-in-law, how's it hangin'?"

My first MIL lived only about 30 minutes away but my second lived in the UK and we lived here in Orlando. I was stupid enough to think that was far enough away. You would think the Atlantic Ocean would be ENOUGH. That umbilical cord snapped him back across the pond and good riddance I have to say.

Doubt it. Pretty dumb... First name is fine with most people.

I call my MIL "Miss M" for the Divine Miss M - a Bette Midler character who was fabulous in every way - that's how my MIL is.
So thats my nickname for her, Miss M. She is a doll and I adore her!
