So you may not catch hiv from unprotected sex but think about all the other wonderful things you can get.

I know the 50% is dramatic, but that's why I said it was the way I see it.

You know what's so funny (or not) some one is going to see this and say it's highly unlikely and that one time they do not protect themselves guess what happens. Life is kind of screwy like that.

You know SierraAZ there is some pretty compelling evidence out there that HIV is not responsible for AIDS anyway. I strongly suggest that folks read WRONGFUL DEATH: The AIDS Trial by Stephen Davis to make up their own minds.

I'm sorry, I do not believe this for a minute. Most likely she was one of the 150,000 people who die annually from medical treatment/medications. 17 percent of the people who die from "cancer" actually die from the direct treatment and not the disease. Several thousands more, I suspect die from having their immune systems blasted into eternity from radiation and chemotherapy. Most likey the person you speak of would have lived a long and happy life *with* her herpes if the AMA had not gotten a hold of her.

I'm not sure that a fictional story is going to help me decide whether or not HIV and AIDS are linked.

I'm very familiar with the theory that HIV doesn't cause AIDS, but it just doesn't hold up under peer review.
On other HIV subject:
HIV is evolving to coexist with the human species. Even without medication we are seeing longer and longer time spans of asymptomatic infection. Combine that with the powerful drugs we have in the West and it is pretty much on par with Diabetes as far as fatality and manageability. THAT is causing a rise in infections; people don't take it as seriously anymore and it's not in the public concious like it was back in the 80's and 90's.
I've dated three HIV positive people. I was comfortable with it because I knew the risks and how to shore up against them. I think knowing the truth about HIV is important for people living with HIV as well as those without. Knowing your chances of catching it may be slim won't cause people to be irresponsible but it may cause people who would've been irresponsible anyway to use that as an excuse.
