I don't anymore because of all the crap but when they were fairly new I did, I quit because of a few things, one my sister used to come on to annoy me to death, she wouldn't do that anymore because I actioned her off to the highest bidder the last time we met but also because its gone way beyond letting your hair down.
I used to visit chat rooms but don't anymore. It used to be fun but don't really like what most have turned into. Hard to find good chat rooms where it's just about fun, friendly conversations and not people looking to hook up for other cyber type activities. Guess saying "No, not interested" gets old after a while.
I frequented a career related chat room for a while, but found that all kinds of strange behavior went out. Lots of people who knew nothing about the biz, etc. etc. I can't imagine what goes on in a "Bang My Wife 2Nite" room.

They just never grew on me at all. Guess I was already too old for this kind of crapola.
MLV, this kind of is a chat room (girl, quit saying self-destructing stuff, pretty puleeze! ), but these are well thought out (at least some) messages discussing certain topics more or less of some substance. Also, there's no time pressure and talking over each other's heads. I've no desire to "meet" strangers and exchange a/s/l...
Not until just recently has the AMA and JAMA begun to recognize Internet addiction as a ligament medical problem.
Live chat is more addictive then some drugs. Let me tell you about my problem with live chat. Im going way way back and do not get involved in it anymore. When I did, I found myself skipping work or doing fun things I loved like fishing or shopping or going to a ball game so I can stay home and chat.
I was so involved I was offered a small fee for being the Administrator of a few chosen rooms as we called it. I had power. I could kick people off for cursing (there were no curse filters like today) or if they were harrassing the guests I could ban them. Soon I began to get the sexual favors from women. In time they were almost impossible to refuse. Just like the a rock band member would get offers from the pretty girl groopies in the bar, I was the head honcho and got private messages all the time. Most very sexual in nature.
In time I lost my job, my wife, my house, my friends, and lost respect from family members. I was indeed like an alcoholic at a low. Im not embarrassed to say this anymore. I was not alone. I would cut out of work mid day because all I thought about was what was going on in my chat room without me there. What are they saying? What is the conversation I am missing out on? Sounds silly dont it?
I ran away from it all one day. I left the United States for a year and lived off the what little money I had. I was among my kind in a Hippy commune. Yes they still exist, especially in Canada and more especially on Vancouver Island.
Today I am normal and successful. What we are doing right here is not chat. It is more like a blog. Blog. Yet another word not even entered into the dictionary yet. Yes this can be addictive too but not nearly as bad as live chat. There are no rooms on City Data called "Meet me in your bedroom".
Talk City is long since defunt now. Many families were ruined by it but Im not blaming it. It was a nice friendly place for years. When the invention of WebTV came along, the sleeze started up and the friendly chat soon was dominated by sex.
This thread title caught my eye. So I just felt like telling my story.
Parents !!!! Watch your kids !!! Chat rooms can be deadly !!!
Sierra, I had almost forgot a/s/l....I might have to store that for down the road....lol
I know it mostly from other people. I've been in chat rooms a few times in my life.
Oh, this reminds of an old funny story. I don't recall how it happened, but somehow somewhere I was talking to somebody who turned out to be a 13-year-old boy, so when he asked about my age I told him I was a 14-year-old girl. The poor thing was talking about being unhappy and lonely because his parents were getting a divorce. I tried to give him some advice that wouldn't sound like coming from an adult, obviously. Then he said 'I've never been on a date. Have you?' and of course I responded 'nah, never seen a boy in my life!'
