I'm also a vet of the boards, and for the first few years I would occasionally crawl off to the corner and weep for hours. A few years later, I would only weep for a few minutes.
Now I just kick the ferrets and return to posting.
i would guess that a lot of us here on CD have had the experience of getting upset over something we read in a post. Or feeling angry at a person posting. I'm talking upset to the point of being near tears, or losing sleep over it, or getting angry and distracted and thinking about it even after the computer is turned off.
How can a post on a forum, from people we've never met and who aren't "real people" in our lives, upset us that much?
I know this has happened to me, and I'm wondering how others come to terms with this?
Thank you as always for your input.
Depending on the level of insult, a comment can be insulting, but I wouldn't be THAT upset over such comments by someone/ anyone I've never met. I would be upset at the moment I read it, but done with it after I move on to another thing.
I figure everyone is entitled to their own opinion and if we temporarily clash, oh well. I'll roll my eyes and get over it. Hopefully I learned something when I sign off , or at least had a good laugh!
i don't post over there but I have heard that the politics forum gets pretty nasty. For me I get most torqued over on Parenting, and i think that's because how children are treated is so near and dear to my heart, and i get really protective

Dim, the political forum is RUTHLESS!! Whew! I became involved ina thread about mean rich people, of all things and the posts became so nasty it was locked down. I usually avoid that arena. I much prefer my sweet, self effacing friends in relationships, house and parenting.
