Do I have to admit to having had posts deleted due to suggesting to some snooty B**** that she shouldn't own dogs?
Guess she couldn't take the heat and reported them.Poor baby.

it's wild how things can get out of hand, i wandered into a Maine thread about life in Maine and that seemed benign enough...WRONG. There was so much nastiness going on, over half the posts were removed, tons of people got rep penalties (including me) it was vicious and bloody, there was a raving lunatic saying people had "RUINED HER THREAD" it was just hilarious. I stay away from that forum now, too much strangeness.

It totally is ruthless! I was crazy enough to start a thread on health care over there when I was new. Oh boy. I think that me and my liberal ways are DEFINITELY not welcome there! You just get slammed - accused of being a socialist, communist, etc. All because I think that everyone should be entitled to health care.

It always seem to be the same people who believe that if they've got something, to hell with everyone else. Same crew who thinks abortions should be illegal and that if you are gay or commit suicide you're going to hell. There's really no talking to people like that - so I stay here and argue over infidelity and fat women!!!

I started a hum dinger in the political forum that got moved over there - you may even have been part of it. Now THAT got really nasty which was a shame, as it wasn't my intention. It ended up being locked down too.

I did write a little bit on them, but it's not worth the irritation and potential risk. I'm like mrstewart now - visit only places where I can have fun. There's enough nuisance in real life to be on an online quest for more.

How can a post on a forum, from people we've never met and who aren't "real people" in our lives, upset us that much?

I know this has happened to me, and I'm wondering how others come to terms with this?

Thank you as always for your input.
Well D., I don't think I've ever been to the point to where I have gotten angry at somebody or being brought to tears or losing any sleep, however there have been a few that has concerned me and only because I considered them to be good friends and I respected them and these are the ones that I will try to have a private discussion with to see if things can be worked out to some sort of understanding, so that we can both come away from it still respecting each other and remaining friends.

Good question. I know I can get really worked up about some things, and at times something can stick with me for days. Even though I've been writing in online forums of various types since the late 70's (so you'd think I'd know better!), I still get cheesed off from time to time.

One of the things I try to do when this happens is to remind myself that it really isn't that important, that I don't need to have the last word when the other person is so obviously wrong , and that I should try to not sweat the small stuff. Online forums are typically not life and death struggles.

It usually helps. Not always, but usually...

My first posting experiences began on the CD politics forum. At first I was a little offended, but after I got over the shock I just went for it. I try to speak my mind without getting personal or vicious, some people take it way too far. The worst ones are the racial threads, but I feel so personally about those issues that I feel the need to post my opinions even though I get the most irritated by peoples responses, actually this just happened a couple of days ago, I almost let go the kind of rant that would probably get me a lifetime ban, but I just turned off the computer and poured myself a nice glass of wine, that worked, so now I'm okay again.

I was really surprised by the politeness on the relationship forum, it's refreshing. But I like to get feisty sometimes.
