That's because the marriages/relationships are brought there DOA.

Given the "right" counselor, nothing is DOA.

...in theory, anyway.

Yep that is what I heard too. The marriages are already pretty much in the final phases of ending by that point and the counselor cannot really do anything to help or save it.

It's like a "as seen on TV" gadget, right?!

it's good that you are venting. when listening to the advise of others try to remember that you should only take what you need.
the fact that you have grown apart doesn't mean that you can't rekindle the flame and just because you feel that you don't want to throw 20years away doesn't mean that the fire still burns.
look at all sides and know for sure what you want.

Wow!
With you guys, who needs counseling? I feel like we can work it out, and I believe in my heart he really wants that. We have had very little sleep, lots of talking and crying. In the long run, this may be the best thing that's ever happened. We do have a counselor, and we really like her. The hard thing will be not to take for granted that we're ok and slip back into it. We are going away this week-end, and I am very excited.
The problem with this woman is that she is one of his biggest clients.
There is a business function tomorrow night, and she will most likely be there. He keeps asking me to go, but I'm not sure I can handle it.
I guess I'm afraid I will fall apart. Is that silly? Besides, I look like hell right now, and when I do see her, I really want to look my best. Maybe I'm just being insecure.
Thanks for all the replies. I've never been on a forum before and I must admit, I always thought it was a little strange, but I am already feeling better just hearing the positive comments.
Thanks to you all.
