Be nice about it and say something like "It's been a long time since I was in math and I am having trouble getting the same number you did! Are you using the new math?? wink, wink"
They will not be offended if you take some of the blame(even when you don't have any!) and give them the benefit of the doubt.
$229 per night for 3 nights (4th one is free)= $687 diveded by 4 couples= 171.75 add 18% taxes/gratuity which is what it usually is=202.66
i dont think your friends are cheating you. i cant imagine that one couple would have the gaul to go on vacation with 3 other couples and not show what the charges are and not show that they too have paid their share.
A few months ago, a couple that we are very good friends with asked us if we wanted to pitch in on a chalet and go to the mountains for a long weekend with two other couples (four couples total). We agreed that we'd love to so my friend and I started looking online for chalets. This is where the dilemma begins. The cabin we rented was $229 per night and we're going for three nights. The company had a great deal at this time of year that if you stayed three nights, you got one free. Great! My logic is $229 per night times two nights equals $458 then whatever tax would be. Divide this by four couples, I'm assuming we're looking at spending under $130. My friend and her husband paid for the reservation and told us that they would let us know what each couple owed. Weeks went by and after asking several times, she kept telling me that she would ask her husband and let me know. Today, two days before we leave, she tells me that my share will be $210! Basically, what it sounds like is that they are planning on paying nothing for their share. I do not want to cause any conflict with my friends so I'm just going to pay my "share" but this just seems extremely dishonest to me. Has anyone ever had this happen to them and what did you do?
Well, did you ever consider asking in a diplomatic tone, "How do you figure?"
Maybe I was wrong when I read that the website said stay three nights get one free. I never even thought about that - we're only staying Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. Maybe the discount would have applied to the fourth night when staying, if we were staying a fourth night.
I have a better idea - I say you ditch those people and go shopping and a spa day with me and my friends!!!
I think you might be right!
