Hi everyone,
This is my first post and i hope ive pressed the right buttons to set this up properly

Im a 23 year old guy and whilst i may not be a sasquatch, i do have enough body hair to spark some insecurities when taking my shirt off in public. It basically grows everywhere... I also like to keep fit so im actually in pretty good shape.

At first i thought i was Gods junior science fare experiment, as i turned out much hairier then my family and friends. I was confused as to why this was. (Im not THAT religious by the way lol).

I see that the focus of many similar threads is to find out whether or not women find hairy men attractive. Its quite evident that its up to the individual to decide and there can be no answer to the question without making a blunt generalization about all women.

Sports Stars, Cover Boys and Male Icons are all practically hairless. These people are selected predominantly for their looks (not so much sport stars but you know what i mean) and have become a somewhat 'rolemodel' for guys wanting to appear more attractive. Much like the way women are protrayed in magazines and how THEY can be idolised by other women wanting to improve their body image.

I look at old pics of family and friends (guys) from the 70's and 80's to see them quite comfortably half naked in public and not worrying about the public eye passing judgment on them. It seemed that these guys lived in a time where it was socially accepted to be hairy (or overweight). I even asked some of them and they agree. Some of them are NOW having their body hair lasered off (and they've been married for years!!)

I missed this period and grew up in a time where people will pass judgment (even ridicule ) on others based upon their skin deep appearance.

From a young age i was told i "NEEDED" to wax in order to find a girlfriend and that i would be unnatractive if i didnt. Whilst i do sometimes give in to these demands i did however grow quite insecure about my body image and it has effected me in many ways.

Searching for partners, casually dressing and even socialising are all hindered by my body hair and whilst there are temporary fixes there is no permanent solution without breaking the bank.

Im not here to give you my sob story, nor am i here to ask you whether or not someone could find hairy guys attractive ( most guys have these answers).

I would just like to discuss how society can label people based upon their appearance and i use MY APPEARANCE as an example.

My question is "At what point did we decide that a textbook 'hunk' should be slim, curvy and have no to minimal body hair?"

Oh and forgive me if ive gone about this the wrong way ( im not used to forum ettiquette).

I think you make a very good point. Body hair is indicative of sexual maturity; that's why children don't have any! I can't imagine why it's suddenly become so necessary for men and women to remove it in order to be considered acceptable. I can only hope that this is a temporary trend because I don't think that anyone should have to endure the pain (and expense) of having their body hair ripped from their flesh. I applaud you for not giving in to those who set these ridiculous standards of beauty. They're probably laughing their a**es off at the stupid things they can get us to do.

Having body hair was okay when I was young... 30 years ago. I'd say, just be patient, don't be self conscious, and be yourself. There are still people, and young people too, that aren't obsessed with having zero body hair on their body.

Body hair is natural, and I like mine. To be completely hairless would be odd and akin to being like a space alien imo.

I pity the people in the thread about laser hair removal in the Fashion and Beauty section... so many thousands of dollars throw away trying to remove their unwanted body hair, and then it comes back!

BTW, don't fuss too much about the women who don't like your body hair, as nobody is universally appealing anyway. Shrug.

While I can't say I'm particularly fond of a gorilla look (then again, it depends on who the gorilla is, too ), I'm even less fond of the slug look. I'm not 23, though.

I have a pretty thick chest. It doesn't look 'too' bad, but I do shave it once a year. Sometimes twice. I just prefer less hair. It doesn't have to be smooth, but just so I can see the definition behind it. I workout and want to see what's behind there. lol

Ive had many women tell me not to shave it because they liked it better with hair, but I guess there are a lot who don't like it. Depends on what you like and can live with. If you like it, then keep it. Don't worry about what others think.

I'm not one to "follow the crowds" with fashion and stuff like that. But if I like something I'll do it.

Remember that Coke commerical many years ago with the construction worker and the women office workers lusting over him as he drank the coke shirtless? He had a hairy chest. I guess it was still "in" at that point. lol Yeah, styles change, looks change. It seems as if people in that time frame would want the same things as they grew up with. So the women in that commercial would probzably still like the hairy chest and that guy, as opposed to a 22 year old woman now for example. It's just what we see 24/7 that influances us. IMO.

LOL! It was "Diet" Coke? Oh well. I can't remember that far back. The only reason I remember it was people told me I looked like the guy. Hairy chest and all. lol

I was actually better built. ha!

See? As long as the gorilla is good-natured and cuddly, I've no problem with it. Now a mean gorilla will be too much!
