Huh, I've never heard of it.

If Birmingham is a small town, you'll have issues if you meet everyone everywhere you go.

Heh I don't know. I guess maybe I know it because I used to live so close to it ... but i think it's actually the largest city in Alabama.

Burmingham...the Civil Rights Movement...ringing a bell?

Sorry, I've got an off-sense of humor too. SO, in that light, I thought the OP was hilarious! It makes me sad about everyone else's interactions with their PTAs. I am really bored being a SAHM. I like to plan and come up with ideas. I was really hoping that I could do things through the school--get a creative outlet for myself while helping my sons....*sigh* Maybe it will be different for me. (A girl can hope)

I wouldn't say I "struggle" with it, but at least once a week when I'm downtown I'm confronted by some Greenpeace hippy with a clipboard who asks, "'Scuse me, do you have a minute for the environment?" Now, I'm not a big fan of moral blackmail where saying "no" is the practical equivalent of saying "F#*k the environment." So that's usually how I respond aloud anyway.

Wow. I mean, I don't live under the illusion that Birmingham is the dimple of the Universe, but 1.2 million live here. I think you'd have to be willfully ignorant to live in this country and have never heard of Birmingham.

Don't feel bad, cpg! Our metro area has population of about 1 million, too, but there are people who haven't heard of Tuxin, Tuscon, Tuscan, Tuskan, Tuksan, either...
