When it comes to getting to know someone, men are stupid and women aren't far behind them. Keep this in mind always.
If I had a nickel for all the times I heard that... It really is rude and is really hurtful, too. But keep this one fact in mind, it isn't intended that way. The person that's asking that is trying to get an idea if he/she has a chance at winning you over or if you have some aversion to a long term relationship.
But, to answer it, your family is from the old country and your marriage was prearranged when you were born. Turns out that your intended fiancee is gay and so while a more suitable spouse is sought by your grandfather, you remain free to date at will.
If it turns out you really like the person that asked that question, you can clarify why you gave that answer at the time. A crappy question deserves a crappy answer.
I don't think those questions are meant maliciously. However, there is a stigma in some circles on people of a certain age that have not been married. People may assume that they are overly picky, or have commitment issues, etc. Of course, in many cases, this isn't true.
You may want to reply with: "You're right. I am a catch and I'm using that to my advantage is finding a suitable life partner. I'm self sufficient and have no reason to hurry and make compromises".
