I have noticed that my hubby has been a stress case with all of the gloom and doom news from Wall Street, mortgage fall out and the elections. He is usually very laid back but he is just short, cranky and nervous lately. While I am the opposite...I figure, heck, our country has been through these types of things before, the last being in the early 80's and most people were able to ride it out.

Are any of you dealing with cranky nervous partners or are you the one???

Since she wants to retire in 2 years shes quite nervous. To be honest i have lost one fourth of my 401k value in the last year so I am a little nervous too but I am not the panicky type.

We have a friend who was an exec at one of the recently folded banks and when he left a fewe years ago he kept his stock in the bank...he lost 600k in one day...they need an emoticon for puking! That makes me queasy!

It is scary, to say the least...especially if retirement age, or close.

Mmm, as you know I only deal with cranky nervous me... If you believe this final rip-off of the American (and world for this matter) population is comparable to anything in the past, IMO you really ARE Polly.

It's quite masochistic looking at the media, but I'm guilty of doing it, too. Still peeking at the market and the wonderful headlines even though I got out of it more than a year ago (thank you again so called by the optimists tin-foil heads; why didn't I listen to you about the housing market...).

Can't believe I'm paying money to depress myself. Recently got an offer for Time subscription ($20 + a laser lever I was just gonna buy anyway), so I figured I'd get the magazine and the level. Beats me why I didn't just buy the level I needed instead of getting more printed depression every week...

Don't go makin' fun of my tin foil hat now...quite the fashion accessory over in Political Forums

The news makes me queasy these days...wish something good would happen to divert attention, like another OJ trial or something...Anna Nicole's baby daddy story was a great diversion...

I happen to wear the same hat. Just have no desire to get irritated on that forum, too.

It's sickening... I get a few Money magazines, too - the cynicism is outrageous and it makes me nauseous! We're ripping you off and YOU are gonna pay - the new mantra! I avoid the TV pollution... limit the Web pollution... why in the world do I still get these damn magazines and the local paper?! And if I don't cancel them, why don't I just dump them in the trash?! However, even looking at the covers when getting them from the mailbox is good enough!

I was just nostalgically thinking of the days Clinton and his affairs and cigars were our only concerns... Not that the current state of affairs wasn't being cooked, but it wasn't overboiling yet.

Seriously, I’m trying to look at nature – plants, clouds, animals, anything… to deliberately distract myself. The purpose for being on this particular forum is the same, even though there are irritating factors here, too, but not nearly as much as on the political forums where you say you “entertain” yourself. Still, can’t stay out of everything because there are still issues that affect me personally in one way or another…

We've actually benefitted. How were we supposed to know she'd make more money selling herself since she got laid off?

Seriously, it hasn't affected us. Both her and I have fairly secure and decently paying jobs. The only way we've been hit by the economy is in our 401k retirement (down about 30% obviously) and the increase in food bills (but that's the same with everyone across the board).

That is probably the best thing to do...redirect your thoughts and energies...this will pass and hopefully we will all be on the upswing!
