When I stay at someones home as a guest should they also have food for me or should I take them out to eat every meal?

You are the guest, they are the host/hostess...you should offer to take them out, run to the grocery, etc. but if they know you are coming and are accustomed to having guests they have probably planned the meals, etc.

It's nice to make the gesture to offer to take them out to eat or to offer to pay the bill (you know how you guys do it when the bill comes with the "I got it" routine), but no, it's not proper protocol to take them out for every meal. Any house guests I have had, I have a full fridge for them. I shop before they arrive. They are my guests.

I provide my guest with everything they need, I dont expect anything (groceries or to be taken out). If they prefer to eat out we go dutch (man or woman).

You should offer to scrub toilets and throw out the trash.

It depends on the situation. How long you are staying, why you are there (did they invite you or are they doing you a favor), and if they stay with you sometimes. Also, are you getting a bed to sleep on or the sofa?

If you are staying the weekend and they've invited you, then I would expect them to stock the pantry extra for you. But I think that you should take them out and treat them to a nice dinner as a thank you.

If you are staying with them because you are in town for a job interview, then you should get your own groceries and still thank them with a nice dinner.

But it all depends on the situation. At some point, my boyfriend and I will go up to ME to see one of my friends. She want him to try to sort out an electrical problem on her mentee's scooter. So in that case, if he can fix the scooter (so they can sell it) I would expect a night's stay and her to cook us dinner and buy my boyfriend some good beer.
