What percentage of men and women who are still single at 40 stay that way? (marriages, therapy)

Why would a person at 40 still be single? That's a little bit questionable. You should be married by your late 20s, at the latest, especially when you factor in having children.
You got it... all those 40 something men who claim they want a relationship mostly want children as well. I can't speak for other ladies, but I don't care if I can/cannot have more kids as I am in my mid 40s... I DON'T want any more babies. I had mine in my late 20s/early 30s...soon they will be off to college. By the time I am 50 I' a free biotch babay!
When I want to go on my boat, I want to go......I dont want to go to my SO's family party, or go to their house for dinner.........I want to go boating!!
When I want to hang out and chill, leave me alone......etc etc etc
I'm 31........and have had one serious relationship where I thought we'd end up married- it was 8 years ago. She is now married, I havent even had a "serious" thing since then. Just little hook ups here and there..
I'm 31, too. I have the same thoughts, as well. However, I've begun to change this attitude. This is what sends a lot of men into the "creepy old guy" stage sooner rather than later.
Ever seen that scene from GOOD WILL HUNTING where Sean (Robin Williams) recalls the day of the biggest Red Sox game in history and how he missed it over a girl.

Few men want to shag a 50 year old woman unless it is a joke F of some sort.
That really depends on the 50-year old woman! 50 is not at all what it used to be, far from it. You must run with a different crowd than I do. Or you're not recognizing some of the women you come across day to day as 50-year olds, you're assuming they're 30-year olds. You can't tell how old a woman is by looking at her, these days.
Averages are just averages, they don't account for individual variation.

Say what you want, but you were very wrong about the age when women enter menopause. What the truth means is this: slightly fewer than 50% of all women aged 50 are menopausal, and as such are no longer sexually attractive to men. Even if they are physically fit.
I don't say this to be harsh, I am just trying to give a healthy dose of reality to those 40 year old never-married women. The expiration date looms large and one should keep that in mind while evaluating potential suitors. I am 42 and look fantastic, but the truth still remains for me too: tick tock. I'm not itching to marry since I've already done so, but a 40-something woman who does want to get married will be far better off by listening to me instead of you. No, 40 something ladies, you won't do as well at 50. Take a good hard look at the best you can get now, because the best of what you can get at 50 is going to be much much worse.

You're right. But, extending the argument, men have a shelf-life, too, regardless of reproductive capability.
Men don't seem to age as well as women. I see men who already look geezerly, when women older than them still look young.
It may be best to forwarn women about menopause, but you can't assume that women are "post-menopausal" at 40 or in their 40's, as you posted earlier, and summarily write them off. All the women I know who have gone through menopause have done so in mid-50's to 60.

No one SHOULD be married by ANY age. People have the right to make their own life choices, the sooner you accept this as a normal part of life the better.
