We do have serious discussions and arguments (but not fights) because of our political views.
Wow, that's pretty amazing! I always figured having different politics is fine as long as it doesn't get "intense" or "ideological", which then basically seems to be about having different values altogether. So what's your "secret", or do y'all just "agree to disagree"?
Well Double J, as long as they don't push their views onto me or put down my beliefs, it doesn't matter. You're not going to share the same views on everything.
Politics run deep in my family..I am a demo..and if you were to visit my parents home before 9 pm on weekends all you will see is CNN..
I was raised in a very politically driven home so much that I am a mod on a political forum..
I cannot run from it..When I got married my mother asked me prior to me marrying actually the few first months of dating after finding out that my ex husbands parents were owners of their own biz..."So are they GOP" I stated they were but my then at the time husband was not...
My mother sighed a breath of relief..and it has been that way since..
I get being in love...but I also get common ground..and GOP views as well as DEM views are so vastly different and affect many areas that butting heads is unavoidable..
A relationship is difficult enough without adding to it...If I see or hear statements to the effect I will cease talking to that person..sorry
No. Especially if they hold views that make me not respect them or take them seriously. I need to know someone has my back to really trust 'em, too. Also, I need my partner to not be naive...many political stances and assumptions are made on a complete lack of understanding of human nature.
But there are many things that have been politicized that I have no problems disagreeing about...like abortion or sex ed, etc.

No offense intended, but actually I'm also a longtime Dem and a strong liberal, and this sort of attitude would bother me as much as dealing with a hardcore "ideological" conservative. So perhaps it's less about which "party" or "position", than whether the underlying attitude is always gonna be dogmatic and "my way or the highway"!
