Why is it that we seem to become complacent about things. We need to have a "tragedy" once in a while to shake us up.
What is it about humans that we lose sight of what is important and what really matters.
The thanksgiving holiday is upon us and I've been thinking about how we really need to be "thankful" for the things in life we do have, as opposed to the things that we perceive to be missing.
What is it we really need? We don't need all of the crap with think we need.
I think people take things for granted because it's not especially useful to expend time every day thinking about what is already there, what hasn't changed in a while. The human mind is built to see differences and changes, which is why of course it notices tragedies, or any major changes good or bad. I think it would be counterproductive to a forward-looking, ambitious life to be thinking about what you HAVE constantly rather than what you WANT. It's that drive to have more that creates greatness.
Thank you for your thread, Chow! I like to think I am a thankful person who tries not to take my many blessings for granted but somedays it happens...thanks for the reminder!
I second that it is a good post.
Among other things, I am thankful I have ten toes in working order, which is probably the basis for the base 10 numbering system. Imagine how different our thinking would be if humans were provided 11 total toes and we had a different system?
When we rejoice in our blessings in makes a happy heart.
the sun, the rain and the appleseed. Everything else is gravy.
I have been very poor and fairly rich. Neither one is significantly better than the other. there are advantages to each condition. Stuff is just stuff. I am thinkful for health when I have it, love, family and each and every day that god gives me.
