oh it definitely wasnt a joke. and i am tempted to ask him what he was thinking, BELIEVE ME, but i dont want to insult him...and i certainly dont want to be perceived as a gold digger or materialistic woman, because i am FAR from that. ...

I think I would have said, "oh these are interesting choices, what made you choose these????" It would be interesting to hear the thought process...

Hiking socks and an open box of dog biscuits???? This guy is not thinking straight. Even an unopened box of dog biscuits would be inappropriate. Whether the hiking socks are depends on how much she likes hiking.

A nice card would have cost about the same and been more appropriate. Something is not right with this guy.

You are gonna regret posting this when you wake up, look out your window, and see a brand new Lexus with a big red bow on it.....

First, if I liked him...I might be a little hurt but would look at the big picture. He remembered your birthday and got you something. Say thank you and laugh.

I also think that it's kind of early in the relationship to expect more than socks and dog treats...unless you have been giving up "tail" already.

Hope he paid for the dinner at least. Happy birthday!

I am a low maintenance woman myself. I have very realistic expectations of a man and of dating. However, dog treats and socks? Unless it was the teaser for a puppy that you could take hiking... which that would have been rather creative! Otherwise, I think I might be saying goodbye to any sort of romantic future and giving the we're friends speech. Forget about them not being wrapped - but the gifts themselves..... nothing there to woo ya!

Default Quick, Cheap and Easy!

Clearly this guy is sending you a message as to what he thinks of you and your relationship. Those gifts say “I didn’t know what to get you and this was quick, cheap and easy.” Do you want that to be the basis of your relationship?

My reply may have been something like ‘ oh dear, you’ve given me the wrong bag, your laundry is in this one’.

Even if he was joking it’s a really bad one.
