Default Any Way to Rid of STALKERS?

This post is inspired by Paula Abdul's situation, but I'm sure this happens to lots of us.

So the question is: "besides" restraining order (you "know" how that doesn't really work), how would you get rid of your stalker?

My hubby told my stalker that he'd beat the crap out of him if he ever came near me again. Worked pretty well!

It really depends on if they just like you or are obsessed beyond all reason. The latter kind is the real problem.

Do you have a stalker?

Well the only legal thing I can think of besides the restraining order is moving and changing your cellphone number and breaking off ties with anyone the stalker knows. Move somewhere they wouldn't expect you to go if they are familiar with your likes and dislikes. What else could you possibly do within the limits of the law?

There is not much that can be done with the exception of being vigilant about your own safety...

Yes, that too

When we had an issue with a crazy patient that was coming to our home in the middle of the night, the police said if we felt even remotely concerned about our saftey we should discharge the weapon COMPLETELY into the person! Of course, we are in Virginia!

No, I don't, thank God! But I've been seeing this pathetic trend that, because our laws actually protect EVERYONE, including the perpetrator, there is really NOTHING you can do other than restraining order, or changing your contact info. I think it's really messed up that victims of stalkers would have to change their contact info that they've had for so long, just so that ONE person can no longer contact them.

Mr. Cat, what is a S&W can?

I was stalked by a guy who'd only seen a picture of me. It was a set up between a guy my friend was dating friend only I never agreed to it. Anyway, he got my number from her phone and got my address from the internet and started calling me and telling me how pretty I looked and what he wanted to do to me, this went on for a while until the guy's friend was able to put an end to it (or I was replaced, who knows). The only good thing to come out of it was that I briefly dated the detective I filed my report with . But no, its way too easy to find someone now. The internet is a blessing and a curse.

Yup, you don't need a license to buy one.

I guess I was just surprised when he said they no longer tell civilians to tap once (hit the perp) but rather unload the weapon into the chest cavity. I was shocked! But then again, the police in Richmond would probably consider it a favor if I shot someone like that! They have their hands full with crazy stuff here.
