I don't care for any pets, so my opinion is completely unbiased. Between these two, it's definitely not the dogs who have character. Cats don't kiss as* for their food. They're GIVEN what they need without having to do any begging and they grace you with their presence and adoration only when they wish and for as long as they wish!
