Default So what do you do when a guy getting a divorce sends you diamonds for Xmas?

We both liked each other in high school but we were doing other things so we never dated. Years later he's in the midst of getting a divorce w/a woman he shares 3 kids with and they currently live up north. Awhile ago I told him I regretted I didn't date him in HS and now he sends me diamond earrings that I KNOW he really can't afford. They're not SUPER pricey, but for someone who has 3 kids to take care of and bills to pay it really is a chunk of change. How should I feel about this? Should I send them back or keep them or what?? I almost feel uncomfortable accepting them because we've known each other and cared about each other for so long and knowing he could not really afford it with the kids and his situation..but I also don't know if returning them is a good idea..as it is his choice as to how he spends his money.

Wow diamond's! As good as it sounds, wouldnt it be rude to return them back? Also, maybe he will be hurt to see the gift returned?
You are saying that he was your friend from High School...If I were you I would ask him why he sent such an expensive gift.

Are you sure they are real?
Is it possible it was the wife jewelry?

Depending on where he got them from if they are real, they may not have cost much.

Good point. They should have had a certificate for insurance.

take them to a jeweler and ask what they think. If it is pricey, thank him and tell him he didnt have to and if he insist you keep them then accept it. If they are cheap and fake then just say thank you lol

They are real. They were shipped directly from the company that they are sold through. I checked the order # & price onthe website.

Yep, I agree. Tell him thank you, and you could even tell him your concerns about it.

Just like that. Out of the blue just b'c you told him you regretted not dating him? Why does it feel like something's not right here? Why does it matter? B'c the real/whole story determines the outcome, imo.
