You know, it really depends on the age of the wearer. Longer hair, particularly down to the shoulder blades, is really characteristic of a younger person. By the time a woman in her 40s is wearing it that long, it's really hard for the style to look good, no matter how much attention she pays to it.
And, to be honest, anything past the top of the shoulder blades really begins to look bad for women of any age. Lots of split ends. It almost never looks good, unless being sported by a top model.

Hmm.. My wife is 41 and her hair is stunning. Her mom is 70 and her long hair is stunning.. Maybe it's genetics.
But then again my wife rarely had her hair colored, preened with chemicals, or other noxious garbage. Maybe that has something to do with it too...

Why would that be if the hair is healthy...?

Like I said, it's very rare. It may be that there's a disconnect between long hair and a mature woman, given how it is really a youthful style to begin with.

I agree with that in some cases, but I look AWFUL with any length above the chest area. I mean, bad. Both men and women have said so. I just look weird with shorter hair. If women gets regular trims of her ends, split ends should not be so noticeable. Some just don't take care of their hair though, I have seen what you mean. They grow it out and just think it will take care of itself.
