A Relationships Forum as a Sample Plate
I was thinking last night how the wise and famous/infamous “they” recommend ample dating as a way of sampling different personalities and making sure you find the right person for you. I believe we get this benefit in the safety and comfort of our own homes and offices. There is such a wide range of people, opinions, quirks, attitudes… Do you guys acknowledge such an advantage in our bickering?
I’d imagine those who are in relationships are just happy not to be in the single jungle and probably find even more appreciation for their partners seeing what’s out there...

Every once in a while, I look at Mrs. CPG and say, "Thank you for taking me away from all that."
That being said, I definitely think dating outside one's comfort zone is probably a good thing. All the chronically unhappy singles in their 30s and 40s that I know have one characteristic in common: They all have very tightly-defined standards on who their perfect person is. If somebody falls outside that list of criteria, they get automatically rejected.
As I've said before, I basically dated the same basic person over and over again. When I finally had the wherewithal to try somebody different, bingo.

Yes, I agree this forum provides an advantag, but I dont agree with "the powers that be" reccomendation that ample dating will insure you find the right person.
I am happy not to be in the single jungle.

I must've not expressed my thoughts clearly. They don't mean ample dating as in "number of people" will ensure finding the right person. The advice is in relation to trying different types because you may go out with a 100 people of the same type. As cpg said, a lot of us are used to a certain breed and the recommendation refers to exploring what else might be out there as far as a different personality.
Well, cpg, it’s hard to teach old dogs new tricks, but nevertheless it’s still interesting to check out a variety of species. Frankly, what I see out in the jungle is mostly worse than what I've had and even more incompatible, so not much hope for improvement really...

You betcha! I read the posts on this board for awhile and just have to go hug my wife and thank her for putting up with me!
I also appreciate all those women I dated before her. From the opinions I see here, it amazes me that I was able to get a date, much less a second date.

I live in a huge plastic, sanitary bubble. My requirements are so 'out-there' that I have to insulate myself from the public at large.

I love being married and I love not having to date, but because I was on my own for a while, there are times that I wish I had that kind of personal space back.
