I'm glad Al Gore invented the internet It gives me the excuse to not phone relatives, since everyone is online. In fact, it's damned aggravating - I spend hours updating our web page; adding pictures, sometimes small video clips; and blogging about the goings on in our lives. I find it more descriptive than just rambling on the phone, and encourage family members to leave comments, yet our folks still complain "we never hear from you!"
Feh. I think it's more that they want us to hear them talk, than actually being interested in what's going on with us.

You are provincial and churlish and philistine.

Yes, I am. I always prefer being alone over talking to someone else, unless it's someone I know really well and don't feel like I have to impress.

I am so not a phone person and I too feel the need to fill silence when on the phone. I am a chic we are suppose to be phone people, from what people tell me. I hate the bloody thing.

i HATE talking on the phone. I don't mind it so much if someone calls me, but when i have to call people I'm not comfortable with, it takes me a LONG time to do it.

I'm not antisocial, but I much prefer looking at the person to whom I am talking. I'll talk on the phone to obtain final arrangements to meet someone and then spend my time talking to them in person. The one exception is a special person with whom I have a lot in common who lives in another state. We can talk for 2 hours - but we are kindred spirits.

Am I a phone person? That depends on the situation. If I don't know who it is, I won't answer my phone. If I'm expecting a call from someone I don't know, I may answer it. If I don't know who you are, and you leave a message, I might call you back. I hate calling people I don't know. It scares the sh*t out of me. If you're one of my contacts, I'll answer everytime, unless I'm in a situation where I a) don't have a signal, like onboard my ship; or b) it would be inappropriate to answer. Either way, I'll get back to my contacts ASAP. I don't have many contacts, and I also don't have a landline. Saves money, and I can better control who calls me. Texting is great if I have a quick question, but I'm not one much for text convos. Email is the best thing ever. I can actually comunicate with the outside world when I'm underway or deployed. It's great.
