My kids have this very bad habbit of making me feel older than dirt lately...they tell me 'red heads' are called gingers. Has anyone ever heard of that? My younger daughter has a thing for 'gingers', and it's so funny because my only neice on my husbands side of the family was also attracted to red heads, as early as kindergarten. She didn't marry a red head, she's now 25, but he's real irish and some siblings have the red hair.

I have not heard that term used in modern speak in my lifetime, but it was a popular way of referring to redheads in my grandmother's early years. She would refer to folks as being ginger-headed from time to time, but I haven't heard anyone younger than her do so. She was born in close to the turn of the century and spent some of her childhood in the Indian Territory that later became Oklahoma. Moved to Texas in a covered wagon as young adolescent. That gives you an idea of the generation that used the term.

Rance, Sorry, but I am not gonna flirt with you. I have enjoyed your photos spread around in the various threads and envy your ability to have all these wonderful spots as your back yard.
My family and I are headed to Anchorage June 13th-26th for solstice and general mayhem. Not sure If I will get to Sterling or not, most of my wife's plans are for Denali, Whittier and Anchorage venues. If we do, it will likely be only as far as we can drive in that direction as a day trip from Anchorage.
Rance, maybe you can tell what it is that makes the ~240 mile trip to Homer take so much longer than the ~240 mile trip to Denali? I don't recall the Turnagain arm roads to Gridwood or Whittier being THAT narrow or twisty to make the drive to Homer so much longer, unless the roads are very different in that section.

Tourist traffic mostly. Everyone looking out the windows and driving slow. Motorhome madness. And when there is a moose or bear near the highway...traffic comes to a standstill. Plus the roads wind around a little. For me it seems to take longer to drive north toward Talkeetna etc, than south to Homer. I think because I know the route with my eyes closed to Homer.

I want to come back as an eagle. Can you handle being an eagle? They mate for life you know!

There is something about the accent just makes us weak in the knees
Being half Italian, when I was singe I dated a few men of italian decent. I did learn one thing.
Do not date an Italian man if he is the baby of the family. His Mom will not approve especially if you are a wee bit older than he is
But then again I remember one guy I was dating that I brought to a family party lol my Uncles sat him down and had a "chat" with him. He was not italian and didn't understand the "family" thing.
rofl I wish I had a picture of his face when they asked "So what do you bring to this family? Your in computers hmmm Sorry we already have a computer person "
I guess it it a good thing they really like the guy I ended up marrying.
To bad my neice just got engaged Matts. I could see the "Uncles" faces if she brought home a guy that was from Itlay. Heck they would probably have the wedding set by the end of the visit
