Even if you take out the inevitably controversial "women only like rich dudes and scumbags" stuff, there's still a lot of truth to be found here. The idea of romantic love *is* largely a social construct, created to sell Valentines, reinforce monogamy/the family unit, and so on. It's not really compatible with a mature view of human nature, male or female.
When you get right down to it, men are expected to look good, and have their life together and be good providers. Women are expected to look good and be, for lack of a better term, "virtuous." To the extent you are lacking in one area, you must be able to compensate by excelling in the other.
Double standard? Absolutely. Unfair? Most likely. Is it going anywhere? Nope.

Me? I just try to become someone interesting so I don't become bored. But I have me a clingy Girl, so I guess I'm gonna have me that romantic "lurve". LOL!!!
Ah, my free spirit days, but then she sees herself as a free spirit.
I created this program that picks up on key words in a woman's profile, then constructs very compelling responses, each individualized to the female in question. It identifies women I might be interested in, writes and then auto responds with no input from me what so ever.
To the trained eye it looks animated but we're talking women here...
I've had a couple of Great Loves in my life, and I'm glad.
But nothing lasts forever, and the older I get the more convinced I am, its not supposed to.
Most of my relationships (non live in) lasted 9 months. That seems to be about the time something testing happens, make or break.
My marriage lasted nearly 10 years, ditto.
I don't anticipate having a partner when I die, being a woman. Men usually die first even if you do manage to find the Love of Your Life.
I've probably got another couple of serious relationships left to go before I die but I don't imagine any will be PERMANENT.
