Is that right? I kinda know a female smartas@ is not particularly appreciated , but it's an eye-opener to come across some proof. Granted, the article is on a NZ site. Let's see what our boys have to say!

"When forced to choose between humour production and humour appreciation in potential partners, women valued humour production, whereas men valued receptivity to their own humour," said Dr Martin.
More than half the men who took part in the survey revealed that a witty woman was not what they were looking for in a partner. Dr Martin said the findings suggested that men see themselves as the ones who should be delivering the lines and feel threatened by humorous women.

The revelations came as no shock to some of Britain's funniest females. Meera Syal, who co-wrote and starred in the BBC comedy show Goodness Gracious Me, said: "The idea that men are more interested in having an audience rather than sharing banter doesn't really surprise me.

"Women see men with a sense of humour as dangerous and sexy, while men see [the reverse] as threatening. Basically, what it comes down to is that humour is a mark of intelligence. Many men don't really want to be the recipient of a cutting remark in public that will make them look small or stupid."

women have a trump card they can always play that puts them in the drivers seat. men do not.
. however to stay on topic, i have noted some very smart women on CDF whom i do in fact admire, a few i know personally, however they are rarely the most outspoken. interestingly enough neither given that much respect by other female posters.

Of course you could probably say the same about the male comedians as well.

Yeah, I suppose the stereotyped dumb blondes are not usually funny. They only bring jokes about!

So what if a woman is good-looking and witty?

No way. I would never bother with a woman who didn't make me laugh - smartass or otherwise - humor is a must.
So sad that people think that women who are funny must be ugly - sad for them anyway. Maybe the attractive, funny women are reserved for the attractive, funny men?

Meh. I don't buy much of what that article says, but it's interesting to contemplate. Also, the last line ... "Many men don't really want to be the recipient of a cutting remark in public that will make them look small or stupid."

So? What's the author saying--women DO like to be cut down like that? That's silly.

I think Sarah Silverman is cute.
Tina Fey. Amy Poehler. Both hot.

To be honest, I think my sense of humor has acted as a nice "filter" for finding mates. Any guy who is intimidated by my wit or intelligence is not the man for me.
