What if you had been dating someone for a while and found out they have the cold sore virus (I believe it's one of the herpes) but they hadn't had a cold sore in like 10+ years?
Would you be able to keep dating them? Would you ask them to get on medication? What if you loved them? Or does none of it matter?
What if they were like the most amazing person (physically, emotionally, mentally, intellectually, etc...) person you've ever met?
OR What if they told you when you first started dating?
^It doesn't matter! Its a virus even if there is no outbreak you can still spread it! Besides 90% of the american public have cold sores. So even if you think you are kissing someone clean chances are they are not.
so, what do you do? never kiss anyone again?? (not trying to be sarcastic-but if 90% of people aren't "clean", it doesn't seem to stop people from kissing?)

I was responding to MrCat who said, "get the sore treated". And there wouldn't be any point because even if you treat it it might come back. Most people don't show any symptoms and never will. You can't stop your love life just because you are "afraid" of getting a disease because you must likely will get a virus but it will never show. So just get use to it that a cold sore is normal because everyone has a little bit of warts and herpes, its normal really normal.
