This is a question for both men and women...firstly, if you're a female, what is the ideal height you'd like to be? And if you're male, how tall is your dream gal?
I myself am not really fussy, I'm a bit shorter than average and am only afraid to date taller women because I don't think they'd be interested in me, but anyway, I prefer them to be between 5 and 6 feet for a start, but preferably 5'4" to about 5'9", I think 5'7" or 5'8" is ideal.

I've a question, do you think macho/alpha male type males tend to prefer women who are significantly shorter than them, to feel more manly and have more control over their women? Perhaps the opposite is true of 'ditzy cheerleader' types?

Well when someone is significantly shorter (like 2 heads+) that would make some problems, such as having to lean very far down to kiss her, hold her hand etc, which is not a big deal in itself maybie, but will prohibit spontaneous contact, which is, in my point of view, a big issue.
Such a relation would very likely lose it's heat pretty quickly, and lead to a chimpanzee-like posture for the significantly taller part...
I don't have any sience to back this up, but thats what I gess would happen. Most of my friends in both grammar school and high school were about 1 head shorter than me, and I think that is one fo the reasons i got a really sucky posture. Though hanging out alot with the football team where there are alot of big guys has made me stand a bit straighter...
So macho or not, very much shorter partners are not something I'd look for. That said, if I happened to meet someone really short that I had feelings for, I wouldn't rule her out because of height.

2 heads? haha, a head is about a foot so that would be like 4" to 6", or 5" and 7", but I digress. I think it's sort of strange for very short women - about 5 feet, to go for very tall men, like 6'4": I think the size difference is too big, their kids might end up not being that tall! lol
I'm 5ft, while I wouldn't say it's "ideal", I don't mind it. It's a part of who I am and I like me so I wouldn't change it. My husband is not the macho/alpha male type.

From looking at answers on yahoo answers and other forums about 5'7" seems to be the most common answer, but there's more of a preference for taller 5'10" women than short women. Overall, it seems to matter a lot less for men than women.
