Yes, in some ways it is. I think things like women getting into more fights, 'bisexual chic' are signs of women becoming more like 'one of the fellas.' On the flip side, they still dress in the garishly 'feminine' way that makes them appear more and more like drag-queens.
Apparently women's sex drive peaks at just this time, well after their husbands have peaked in their late teens and 20s. And the fact that many men marry younger women means there is a discrepancy.
I think the tradition of the man being older does not make biological sense...They die earlier, their sex drive peaks earlier...
Anyway, one reason is some men in their 40s are less keen on sex, and also the woman might be bored of their husband or be unsatisfied by him. Relationship issues will also come into the picture...
Okay, I have had a strong sex drive since I was eleven (not saying I acted on it)and it hasn't ebbed since then, so I don't get this whole "peaking" thing. Do some people just never change? Or am I still "peaking" over the last 35 years and haven't yet hit my "peak"? That's why I can't see sex drive as the cause of an affair for women. I think it's more an emotional need, which is sad.

That is just the average, there have been studies done on it. It's kind of an accepted scientific phenomenon, apparently it's designed to prompt a last ditch effort to conceive before menopause.
