Apparently women's sex drive peaks at just this time, well after their husbands have peaked in their late teens and 20s. And the fact that many men marry younger women means there is a discrepancy.

I think the tradition of the man being older does not make biological sense...They die earlier, their sex drive peaks earlier...

Anyway, one reason is some men in their 40s are less keen on sex, and also the woman might be bored of their husband or be unsatisfied by him. Relationship issues will also come into the picture...

Yes. At this age women are peaking sexually. They also tend to have lost all the social anxieties surrounding sex. Most realize a 3 minute encounter with a man that takes them for granted isn't where it's at. Anyway YES. It is common at that age. There is no exclusive age, it can happen at any age.

The internet is to blame. Women everywhere are learning not to put up with lame encounters.

Ladies make him work harder. You will both appreciate it!

Default At what age do most women have affairs?

I didn't know that there was an age specification for when women have affairs and I also don't think that it is something that should be stated much the same as "So, at what age do women start to get wrinkles"....not that simple...and not so common as you think. Having an affair for a woman is not like getting your wisdom teeth on schedule at 16; I never got any wisdom teeth and have never had an affair and I am 61. Would I? NOPE...not ever. It is my preference to live my life with more character than having an affair provides.

That being said......I believe it is just a mere coincidence that these women are cheating on their spouses at age 30's and 40's and you picked up on that fact. I will say, however, not all of us age gracefully and maybe these women felt at their age one last fling was in order...you know before gravity totally takes over and pulls their faces off, boobs to the floor and they are dragging their arses...ridiculous.

Life is complicated enough with one husband let alone a having a boyfriend on the side; who needs double trouble...not I!

Here's the insight I have based on who I've known have had them.

I think women are far more apt in their late 30s and 40s to step out on their husbands. Why? Because by that time, most men are 1) more heavily involved in their careers with less free time to maintain the relationship, 2) children have become much more self-sufficient, 3) women are hitting their sexual peak, 4) greater self-confidence in sexual matters, and 5) a sense that life is passing them by, particularly among women who married young.

For a while, my wife and I hung out with my sister's circle of friends. This group of ten or so couples did everything together. Over time, we noticed that the women were always going on beach trips, to the point that it was 8-10 times a year. Well, as it turns out, more and more women over time were using these beach trips to meet up with lovers.

According to one friend of ours who used to hang with this group but started bowing out when the escapades began, it began with one woman having a boyfriend down at the beach, begging the other women to cover for her. Then another said, "Why not?" and had her own ongoing adventure. Soon, there was actual peer pressure for the others to cave in to temptation. According to this friend, they all began by trashing their husbands and validating each other for stepping out, and the whole thing got out of control. Meanwhile the husbands were working ten-twelve hours a day to pay for their wives' indolent lifestyle.

The result? Of the 10 couples involved, only two are married today. Evidently, somebody spilled the beans, for most of the women were divorced by their husbands over the next couple of years. The other two couples moved out of the neighborhood, never to fraternize with these people again. I asked my sister how she could have cheated on her husband, the quintessential good husband and father who never denied her anything, and she said, "Oh, you just don't know...everybody does it. You'd be so surprised if you knew."

So anybody who says that men cheat and women don't just has no clue. Yes, men cheat earlier, but women cheat almost as often. Women just are more discreet and are more willing to cover for one another than men.

^ The portrayal is so one-sided...it's always the dirty, rotten, cheating HUSBAND or male partner in the relationship. I'm kind of sick of all this male-bashing.
