Default SHOULD a person by age 30 have been married?

i will be thirty in a few months time and i reckon i should have been married by now. most persons my age are, or have been.

but i know what i have to do to change this. i've started to get to understand women better, so i'm going to make more women friends. and from there, maybe in a few years i'd get married.

By whose standards, society's? Forget that. Marry if and when you're ready. If that's never, that's your business, nobody elses. People should have enough in their own lives to be concerned about without trying to impose their standards and run other people's lives, too. Do what's right for you.

I think you should do it at your own pace, but I also think most people put it off too long. The only "should" is when you decide it's right.

wasn't there an episode of friends where a couple of them decided if they reached thirty and still weren't married, they'd tie the knot with each other? Can't remember if it was Phoebe and Ross or some other pairing from that show.

There's no magic formula that says you have to marry by a certain age. Take it at your own pace. I got my husband when he was 45 years old and a bachelor with no kids, no ex and no baggage (lucky me! ).

I'm coming up on 36. Never been.

Yes, I've screwed up one that should not have been. But this is all truly dependent upon your luck, circle of friends, habits, outlook, looks, and region.

I see and have seen many that "settle", it's like some odd musical chairs Saturday night live skit gone mad. They simply grab the first thing that's available to satisfy what they expect should be or have already been, and pay the price later.

So, yes, take up more social activities, do things that improve your appearance and outlook, but don't just grab the next woman that actually makes eye-contact. It's not fair to you or her.

i kind of feel like the odd one out.

Sam, don't think of yourself as the "odd man out". Think of yourself as the "lucky man out"!!!

It was 40. And actually that was all the women I think, picking their "back-up".

Loved that show.

At age 30, you have a greater chance of getting attacked by a terrorist than getting married. And according to the US Census Bureau, by age 30, over 70% of Americans have been married.
